Hiking in Galicia - Camiño dos Faros

Day 1: Arrival in Coruña

Arrival in A Coruña. If you arrive early, you have the opportunity to take a walk through the old town and along the waterfront promenade. You can also visit the aquarium and Torre de Hércules, both located on the peninsula.

Day 2: Hiking from Malpica to Barizo

13 km, 400 m up/down

Breakfast

Morning transfer from A Coruña to the fishing village of Malpica. From the very first step, you're immersed in the feeling of Camiño dos Faros: coastal paths, small chapels, beaches and views over the Sisargas islands. The day ends at your rural seaside hotel near Barizo. Dinner is not included but you can book the neighboring restaurant As Garzas (1 Michelin star). 

 

Day 3: Round trip via Faro Nariga

13-17 km, 620-720 m up/down

Breakfast

You hike to Faro Nariga – one of Costa da Morte's most famous lighthouses. From here you continue to the beautiful Niñon beach which invites relaxation. Afterwards you either take a taxi or walk back along gravel roads and wind turbines.

Day 4: Hiking from Roncudo to Ponteceso

14.5-18 km, 325-525 m up, 450-650 m down

Breakfast

After breakfast a taxi takes you to Roncudo. From here you can choose the long coastal route via O Roncudo and O Corme or a shorter variant. After a coffee break in O Corme you choose again between a spectacular coastal path or a shorter forest route. The day ends in Ponteceso and transfer to your hotel in Laxe with sand dunes and small taverns.

Day 5: Hiking from Laxe to Camelle

12-15 km, 275-485 m up/down

Breakfast

Today's hike is characterized by beaches, sand dunes and wetlands at Traba, followed by coastal paths carved into granite that glimmers in the sun. In Camelles harbor it's nice to sit with an After Walk before you get a taxi back to Laxe.

Day 6: Hiking from Arou to Camariñas

14-16 km, 270-420 m up, 390-420 m down

Breakfast

From Arou you hike via small coves up to Europe's highest sand dune, along the beaches Praias de Trece and to the English Cemetery – an evocative memorial site for shipwrecks. Finish in Camariñas. If the wind picks up too much there is a calmer alternative route from Santa Mariña.

Day 7: Round trip Camariñas

13.5 km, 400 m up/down

Breakfast

You hike to Cabo Vilán – Spain's first electrified lighthouse – and continue along the coast. A slightly shorter day that allows time for a long lunch in Camariñas, known for its lace handicrafts.

Day 8: Farewell to the hiking trip in Galicia

Breakfast

After breakfast transfer to Vimianzo, from there bus to A Coruña or Santiago.
