Hiking in authentic Umbria

7 days / 6 nights

6 Breakfasts included

Day 1: Arrival in Orvieto

The journey begins in Orvieto, one of Umbria's most fascinating cities, beautifully situated on a vertical cliff of golden tufa stone. If you arrive early, a walk through the historic center is recommended – past craft shops, wine cellars and the spectacular cathedral Duomo di Orvieto, with its mosaics and sculptures gleaming in the afternoon light. The evening offers optional dinner and a first taste of the region's wines and naturally gentle pace.

Day 2: Hiking from Tenaglie to Melezzole

22 km, 900 m up, 670 m down

Breakfast

After a morning transfer from Orvieto, the hike begins in the small village of Tenaglie, fittingly surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The path slopes gently upward through wooded hills of oak and chestnut, and views over the Tiber valley open up step by step. Along the way you pass old farmhouses and quiet forest areas where only the wind and birds can be heard. Today's destination is Melezzole, a beautifully preserved medieval village on a ridge – without postcard stands but with stone vaults, alleys and a warm, homely atmosphere.

Day 3: Hiking from Melezzole to Morre

16 km, 720 m up, 780 m down

Breakfast

This is one of the most scenic days of the trip. The route leads up towards Monte Croce di Serra, the trail's highest point at almost 1,000 meters altitude. The view from here stretches over a sea of green hills and towards Orvieto's silhouette in the distance. The descent goes over flowering meadows and fragrant pine forests before you reach the small village of Morre, yet another quiet and charming stone village where you can round off the day with a glass of Orvieto Classico.

Day 4: Hiking from Morre to Civitella del Lago

16 km, 660 m up, 740 m down

Breakfast

From Morre you enter Umbria's quiet realm. The path goes among oaks and over gentle ridges towards Acqualoreto, a village high above the Tiber valley. The small piazza is perfect for a coffee in the shade. You then continue along ancient footpaths surrounded by stone walls and pass the archaeological site Scoppieto, where the Romans once manufactured amphorae. The stage ends with a long and beautiful ascent to Civitella del Lago, situated high above the waters of Lago di Corbara. Here the day's impressions can settle before the panoramic views.

Day 5: Hiking from Civitella del Lago to Baschi

12 km, 260 m up, 540 m down

Breakfast

A shorter but very varied day. From Civitella the path winds down through terraces of olive trees and small vineyards, always with views over the still lake. Soon Baschi appears on its cliff, framed by Umbria's artistic light. Here you can enjoy classic dishes like umbrichelli al tartufo or wild boar stew – a perfect end to a calm and beautiful hiking day.

Day 6: Hiking from Baschi to Tenaglie

15 km, 590 m up, 420 m down

Breakfast

The last day ties together the circular route. You hike through open landscapes, olive groves and farmhouses, before reaching Montecchio, known for its medieval tower and exquisite olive oil, which enhances every dish or simple piece of bread. After a flavorful break you continue on quiet paths through chestnut and oak forest, pass small shrines and follow old stone paths back to Tenaglie. The silence, landscape and rhythm here summarize the entire journey's soul.

Day 7: Farewell to the hiking trip in Umbria

Breakfast

After breakfast the journey ends. An included transfer takes you to the train station in Alviano. From here you can easily reach Rome, Orvieto or other destinations in Italy. Are you going home already or are you staying longer in Italy's beautiful country?
