Hiking from Cinque Terre to Portovenere

Day 1: Arrival in Monterosso

Arrival on your own to Monterosso and check-in at your hotel. Spend the afternoon strolling around the largest of the five villages in Cinque Terre. You can visit the historic center and in the evening enjoy a good dinner and prepare for tomorrow's adventure.

Day 2: From Bonassola - Framura - To Deiva Marina - 12.5 km +657 m / -643 m. Accommodation in Monterosso.

Breakfast

After breakfast, take the train a short distance to Bonassola where today's hike goes through the hilly landscape that separates Bonassola, Framura and Deiva Marina. The first part of the hike is very beautiful with wonderful views over the northern part of the Ligurian coast. Once you reach Deiva Marina, take the train back to Monterosso.

Day 3: Choose between different hiking routes

Breakfast

Hike A - Circular hike from Monterosso via Soviore and Vernazza
Hike up (or if you prefer take bus or taxi) to Soviore monastery which you can visit before you start walking towards Monterosso via Vernazza. From Soviore you start on an asphalt road before continuing on a nice panoramic trail that gradually takes you down to Madonna di Reggio. Continue on a cobblestone path down to beautiful Vernazza. After a break, take the coastal trail back to Monterosso. If you want to shorten the hike, you can take the train from Vernazza back to Monterosso.

Hike B - From Monterosso to Riomaggiore via Corniglia/Volastra/Manarola
You take the train from Monterosso to Corniglia. From Corniglia you walk uphill until you reach the hiking trail that takes you to Volastra from where you continue all the way to Riomaggiore. After a visit to Riomaggiore, take the train back to Monterosso.

Hike C - From Monterosso to Vernazza via Corniglia
This hike takes you along the well-visited coastal trail that links the five villages of Cinque Terre. The trail follows the coastline up and down and includes some stair sections that can be a bit challenging. The trail is otherwise easy to follow. Train back to Monterosso.

Day 4: Circular hike from Monterosso via Levanto - 7 km +350 m / -350 m / 14 km +820 m / -820 m

Breakfast

Today's hike goes along the promontory that separates Levanto and Monterosso. You follow coastal trails and have fantastic views over Cinque Terre and Levante Ligure. You have plenty of time to stroll around Levanto before deciding whether you want to take the train back to Monterosso or if you want to walk. If you choose to walk, you reach the top of the mountain ridge behind where you can enjoy the view over the coast.

Day 5: From Monterosso - Riomaggiore - To Portovenere - 13 km +861 m / -875 m

Breakfast

After breakfast, take the train a short distance to Riomaggiore from where you start a hike along the ridge of the mountain chain that separates Cinque Terre from the rest of the coast. From Colle del Telegrafo you follow a panoramic trail all the way to Portovenere. The view over Cinque Terre and Portovenere's impressive cliffs is breathtaking.

Day 6: Circular hike on Palmaria island - 6.4 km +326 m / -339 m

Breakfast

Today's hike on the island of Palmaria, which you reach with a short ferry ride, you won't forget anytime soon. The island has very varied vegetation. The colors and scents are striking. The hike starts at Punta Secco with the spectacular view towards San Pietro and the impressive Muzzerone cliffs rising in the background. Along the way you'll find several small caves that have been used since prehistoric times. You continue up to the Umberto I fortress. After the hike, take the ferry back to Portovenere.

Day 7: Departure from Portovenere

Breakfast

The trip ends after breakfast. You can take the bus to La Spezia from where trains depart in various directions.
