Day 1: Arrival in Tirana & transfer to Pogradec

After arrival in Tirana, you travel about two hours to Pogradec by Lake Ohrid, the first of several UNESCO World Heritage sites on the trip. Here you get a personal briefing of the journey and familiarize yourself with your bike. Our representative goes through all the details so that you get the most out of your cycling trip in Albania. They are happy to give their best tips for a good first dinner consisting of Albania's fine ingredients.

Day 2: Cycling from Pogradec to Korçë

50 km, 510 m up, 340 m down

Breakfast

You cycle along the lake and through rural surroundings towards the historic town of Korçë, known for its rich culture and hospitality. The route goes through rolling hills and picturesque villages where you can see the traditional agriculture that has been practiced for centuries. Once there, you check into the hotel and visit the town's cultural and historical attractions. Korçë is often called "Albania's little Paris" with its old bazaar, museums and beautiful architecture.

Day 3: Cycling towards the Gramoz Mountains and Shelegur

76 km, 1230 m up, 1050 m down

Breakfast

You cycle south through a fertile agricultural area with views towards Mount Gramoz, which marks the border with Greece. You pass Erseke, Albania's highest situated town (1050 m above sea level), before reaching today's peaceful stage destination in a peaceful pine forest by Lake Shelegur. In the afternoon, a walk in the village is suitable.

Day 4: Cycling in the Vjosa Valley to Permet & transfer to Gjirokastër

58 km, 510 m up, 1250 m down

Breakfast

Your cycling journey continues through forests and meadows to Leskovik and a long downhill to the Vjosa River with views over the Greek mountains. Stop in the village of Petran, where you can take an extra trip to the hot springs in Benje and soften your muscles in the stone pools or walk over an old Ottoman bridge. The journey continues to Permet, known for its traditional dishes and "gliko" sweets. Then transfer to the UNESCO city of Gjirokastër, known for its fortress, cobblestone streets and traditional houses. In the afternoon you have time to explore the fortress and the old bazaar. Or take an optional extra trip 
(12 km, 190 m up/down).

Day 5: Transfer to Muzina Pass & cycling via Butrint to Saranda

68 km, 470 m up, 1110 m down

Breakfast

You start the day with a short transfer to Muzina Pass and cycle on towards Butrint National Park. A small ferry takes you across to the UNESCO-listed Butrint, Albania's most famous archaeological site with fascinating ruins from Greek and Roman times. After the visit, you pedal on to Saranda and enjoy the views over the Ionian coast.

Day 6: Cycling along Albania's riviera

52 km, 1065 m up/down

Breakfast

In the salty morning air, you leave Saranda with a steady uphill and then follow the coastal road through traditional villages. The day offers pristine beaches, local specialties and fantastic coastal and mountain views. You stay overnight in the charming coastal town of Himarë, known for its beautiful stone beaches.

Day 7: Cycling from Himarë via Llogara Pass to Vlore

65 km, 1630 m up/down

Breakfast

The last cycling day continues along the scenic coastal road towards Vlore, through small traditional villages. The highlight of the day is a 10 km long climb up to Llogara Pass, where you are rewarded with a magnificent view over the Albanian Riviera. Then a long downhill through the national park down to the coast where you stay by the water. Wind in your hair!

Day 8: Farewell to the cycling trip in Albania

Breakfast

Transfer to the airport (about 2 hours) and journey home after a wonderful cycling week through an entire country. Mirupafshim (goodbye)!
