Day 1: Arrival in Zarnesti
The journey starts at Bucharest station where you board the train that takes you to Brasov (approximately 2h 45m) and onwards to Zarnesti (approximately 40 min). The ticket is included in the price, so please specify when booking when you land in Bucharest. Zarnesti is a high-altitude town and is the main access to Piatra Craiului National Park.

Day 2: From Zarnesti - To Ohaba - 50 km, +250 m/-400 m

You will cycle north to a small typical village at the foot of Fagaras Mountains, the highest mountains in Romania. On the way you can make a 7 km detour on a gravel road to visit the famous Bear Sanctuary outside Zarnesti. Then you continue to Ohaba where you will visit the county's oldest hydroelectric power plant and hear its amazing history, especially during communism.

Day 3: From Ohaba - To Carta - 60 km, +300 m/-450 m

You cycle at the foot of Fagaras Mountains over Bucium river and pass Lisa Village where a 100-year-old machine still sews thick wool blankets. Later you will visit the impressive Brancoveanu monastery in Sambata de Sus, whose history dates back to 1696. After passing Victoria town and reaching the small village of Cartisoara, you will reach Carta, where you can visit the ruins of the Cistercian monastery. Hopefully you will get the opportunity to meet the pastor and hear his beautiful stories.

Day 4: From Carta - To Biertan - 65 km, +600 m/-650 m

The route through Transylvania continues towards Biertan and its enormous fortified church with multiple ring walls. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The journey continues along country roads, and you will enjoy the pastoral landscapes as well as the fortified church in Richis.

Day 5: From Biertan - To Sighisoara - 40 km, +380 m/400 m

This cycling day gives you the opportunity to discover more treasures in Transylvania. You will continue to Sighisoara, one of the few medieval fortifications in Europe that is still fully inhabited and is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the old town with its famous clock tower, which originally served as the main entrance to the fortification, but also take a look at the covered staircase, the mysterious medieval streets and the house where Vlad Dracul, Vlad the Impaler's father, was born. On the way you can make a small detour to Dumbraveni, a town with an important Armenian Catholic church.

Day 6: From Sighisoara - To Soars - 48 km, +600 m/-500 m

Today you will cycle among Transylvania's hills to Apold, a village that also houses a beautiful fortified church. You will then arrive at Soars, where you will spend the night. The country road today will take you through remote and idyllic countryside, where you will surely encounter shepherds watching their sheep. Don't miss the chance to explore traditional life!

Day 7: From Soars - To Viscri - 35 km, +300 m/-250 m

From Soars you continue cycling to one of the highlights of this trip, Viscri, where you will have the opportunity to visit the local fortified church. This church has been restored with the help of King Charles's foundation. A day's cycling through these ancient and timeless villages gives you time for introspection, time to reflect on the time that has passed and relax with nature around you. If you want to get the most out of your trip, you can take a walk through this picture-perfect village and visit the local blacksmith.

Day 8: Departure from Viscri
Breakfast
Private transfer from Viscri to Brasov (approximately 1.5 hours) and then train journey back to Bucharest (approximately 2h 45m; ticket included so please specify when booking when you need to arrive). The trip ends upon arrival in Bucharest. There is also the possibility to add extra nights in Brasov if you wish.
