Cycling in Puglia

Arrival to the beautiful city of Monopoli with views over the Adriatic Sea. Check-in at the hotel where you receive maps, bicycle and cycling equipment. Cycle through the historically rich Murgia area with olive groves, vineyards and traditional farms. Pass the medieval town of Cisternino with its fine wine. Continue to Ostuni, a pearl by the Adriatic Sea. Cycle past the city's protective walls and seek out its majestic 15th-century cathedral.

The day begins with taking the train (with bicycle) to Lecce in the Salento area (ticket purchased on site approx 9€) before it's time to get back in the bicycle saddle again. Cycle in flat countryside with scattered olive trees, pine forests and sand dunes. Nature is striking and beautiful in this sparsely populated part of Apulia. Pass ancient watchtowers as you approach the medieval fishing village of Gallipoli, today a lively town with a fine historic district.

Cycle along beautiful white sandy beaches. The coastal road takes you to Apulia's southernmost tip, where the Ionian and Adriatic seas meet. Take a refreshing dip in the turquoise water at Torre del Pizzo beach. Continue south to Santa Maria di Leuca, a beautiful village with fantastic beaches and colorful houses.

Feel the cooling sea breeze as you cycle along the high coastal road. Here you are met with fantastic views along the gently rolling roads. Stop at the spectacular cave - Grotta Zinzulusa - before continuing to Otranto, a Greek-Roman port city, well-visited throughout history by merchants and adventurers. The beach in Otranto has been named Italy's finest three times in a row.

Today you cycle along the Alimini lakes that run parallel to the coast. Feel free to stop and get closer to the lakes in the beautiful nature on one of the many cycling paths in the area. Continue through the Salento countryside, which still bears traces of its Greek past in dialects, dishes and bright architecture. The white buildings contrast sharply against the deep blue sea. Once you arrive in Lecce, you can enjoy the splendor of this magnificent city.
