Cycling in northern Tuscany

Welcome to Pisa. Check in at your accommodation and then take a leisurely stroll through the narrow streets of this charming city. Enjoy a glass of the locally produced Chianti wine. If you eat something good, you might also get to taste the fantastic olive oil produced at the region's vineyards. Before you return to your accommodation, take a walk past the chapels and pastel houses located by the Arno River.

Start the day by cycling through the inspiring countryside between Pisa and Mount Monte Serra. Stop at the grandiose monastery, Certosa of Calci, which was founded in 1366 and houses a fine natural history museum. In the afternoon, cycle around the heart of Pisa where you can visit the world-famous Miracle Square together with its famous leaning tower. Also admire the city's many palaces, churches, towers and squares.
You can also choose to cycle only around Pisa, 13 km.

Today's bike tour is incredibly beautiful and almost completely flat. The route follows the Serchio River until you reach the charming city of Lucca. You have plenty of time to visit the city, explore fairytale gardens, majestic bell towers and the impressive Piazza Anfiteatro, a Roman amphitheater from the 2nd century.

Today you choose between two cycling routes with different difficulty levels for today's visit to the characteristic Renaissance villas on the outskirts of Lucca. Both routes are similar in length where one route is almost completely flat, while the other is more hilly with greater elevation variation. The latter offers fantastic views over the area and landscape. Walk around and experience prestigious villas and stroll around in the extraordinarily luxurious gardens.

Cycle past Altopascio and let yourself be amazed by the region's beautiful, green landscape. Eventually you will reach the romantic town of Vinci, where the famous inventor/artist Leonardo da Vinci was born. The town offers many small, pleasant restaurants and shops and at the square in the center you have a fantastic view over the steep valley below the town.

Cycle around Vinci and visit the two museums dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci. Let yourself be fascinated by his original patterns and inventions. When you feel ready, leave the bike at the hotel and be transported by car to Empoli. In Empoli you take the train to Florence (not included) for an afternoon and evening in a true Renaissance jewel.
