Day 1: Arrival in Paestum

After arriving at Capaccio train station, you pick up your bicycle and take the short distance to the hotel past the ancient Greek temple area of Paestum. Your luggage is taken care of and delivered to the hotel. Depending on arrival time, you choose to already now take a short look at the excavations to do a more thorough sightseeing tomorrow, or you choose to cycle down to the beach for a quick dip before heading to the hotel, which is located right next to the temple.

Day 2: From Paestum - To Felitto – 66 km, +950 m/-800 m

If you didn't have time to visit the temple area the day before, we suggest you do so before cycling on. Don't miss going into the museum to look at the so-called "Tomba del Tuffatore" which is a unique example of a Greek tomb painting. Then it's time to cycle away towards Capaccio, past farms with grazing cows and mozzarella production. Feel free to stop and taste the completely fresh cheese. After the first climb towards Capaccio, the road continues along the edge of a mountainside and you reach Trentinara. After a short break, you cycle on quiet roads that wind through the lush landscape past medieval small towns and finally enter a wonderful valley that you follow to your agriturismo near the small village of Felitto. The evening's dinner is prepared with local specialties.

Day 3: Cycling around the Calore river valley – 56 km, +1000 m/-1000 m

Today you have a choice between several different round trips. Either you cycle to Castelcività to look at the impressive 5 km long limestone caves or to Sant'Angelo a Fasanella to visit a small church built inside a cave. Cycle to the destroyed village of Roscigno Vecchia, which is called "the Pompeii of the 1900s" or cycle to Sacco which lies at the edge of high cliffs and continue into an enchanted river valley. Perhaps you make a stop at the Calore river, where you have spotted swimming otters. Then you cycle on peaceful roads in fragrant greenery, between tall chestnuts and beeches, along olive groves and vineyards. In the evening you return to your hotel to enjoy "la mamma's" kitchen.

Day 4: From Felitto - To Ceraso – 65 km, 1100 m/-1200 m

From Felitto the journey goes first to Laurino which displays a historic center with wonderful small churches, old palaces and a stately castle. After this, the cycling continues on forest roads past small villages to Moio della Civitella with the ruins of an ancient Greek city. Feel free to climb up to the small church that lies at the very top of a hill for a fantastic view. This is also a wonderful place for the day's lunch. From Moio you continue to Vallo della Lucania, which is the largest city in central Cilento. From here you cycle on to Ceraso and your agriturismo.

Day 5: From Ceraso - To San Marco di Castellabate – 57 km, +600 m/-650 m

Today the cycling goes out towards the coast and the first stop should be at the remains of the ancient Greek city of Velia. You admire the old harbor, the Greek and Roman baths, various temples and the famous "Porta Rosa". After this you cycle on through the plains out to the coast, follow the coastal strip through among others the fishing villages of Pioppi and Acciaroli. Feel free to make a stop and take a swim and eat a good lunch on the beach. Then you cycle on and perhaps take a look at the enormously gnarled pine trees out on the Punta Licosa headland and soon you arrive at your hotel.

Day 6: From San Marco di Castellabate - To Paestum – 50 km, +900 m/-900 m

If you missed the Punta Licosa headland yesterday, you can today take the stone path from San Marco to the small lighthouse at the far end of the headland. Then you perhaps visit the medieval village of Castellabate which lies right nearby on the mainland. You then continue to the small village of San Pietro from where you cycle on a quiet country road to the beautiful bay of Trentova near Agropoli. The next stop is the city of Agropoli itself where fantastic remains of an ancient fortified city exist. Then you cycle back to Paestum and enjoy a peaceful evening with good food and drink at one of the restaurants near the temple area.
