Cycling in Bavaria's Lake District

Arrival to Bavaria's capital Munich and check-in at your hotel where bicycle and cycling equipment await you. Worth visiting are the English Garden with its Chinese tower, Frauenkirche church, Nymphenburg Palace and Marienplatz square.

The cycling goes towards Lake Ammersee, where you can take a break in Herrsching and enjoy the view. Then the route continues up to Andechs monastery – a classic for cyclists with both culture and reward in the form of beer. Alternative route through the idyllic Würmtal valley to Starnberg (approx. 25 km). Lake Starnberg lies beautifully nestled in the Alpine silhouette with views towards Zugspitze.

Follow the lake's eastern side to Berg, where King Ludwig II perished, the place is marked by a cross at Votivkapelle. Just before Seeshaupt, a beach and biergarten offer a lovely break opportunity. Today's destination is Murnau and Seehausen, located in the middle of the scenic "Blue Land" – home to artists like Franz Marc.

The day offers one of Bavaria's most colorful landscapes: turquoise rivers, small lakes and mystical marshlands in the Isarwinkel region. Here lived the artists Franz Marc and Gabriele Münter, who painted their most famous works. Enjoy the view over Kochelsee before reaching Bad Tölz with its beautiful facades and charming center.

Cycle along the Isar trail back towards Munich. The landscape around Pupplinger Au offers tranquility, forest and river glitter, perfect for a stop at a biergarten. On the Isar's steep bank towers Grünwald castle, one of Bavaria's most famous. The view from the tower over the valley is magnificent. The tour continues through forest and past Hellabrunn zoo before reaching Munich.
