Cycling around Gironde, Médoc & Cognac

Arrival to Bordeaux train station or airport and transfer to the hotel in Pian Medoc. At check-in you receive information materials and route descriptions for the cycling trip. The bicycles are also available for pickup at the hotel.
 

Accommodation in Le Pian Medoc

From Macau the road goes along the Gironde towards Margaux, Saint-Estèphe and Moulis. Here you get the opportunity to experience all the famous wine châteaux and stop at the small harbors such as St Julien. This château road crosses Médoc and is one of the most beautiful. The cycling takes you to the heart of "Medoc rouge".
 

Accommodation in Margaux or Moulis

Cycle from Moulis and stop for a walk through the famous vineyards. You also have the opportunity to visit places of historical interest - archaeological excavations in Brion, Castera castle, the monastery church Vertheuil and Fort Medoc. Continue along the château road to Pauillac, the main town of Médoc with its fine little harbor and its 18 "grand Cru Classes" from Latour to Lafite Rothschild. 
 

Accommodation in Saint Seruin de Cadourne

This slightly longer but relatively easy cycling stage takes you along the Gironde, all the way through the northern part of the Médoc peninsula. Feel free to stop at the small harbors St Christoly or La Marechale or at the Richard lighthouse which offers a fine view over the river mouth. You also pass the charming little village of Soulac before the cycling ends with the boat trip to Royan.
 

Accommodation in Royan or Gallian

The Royannais area offers a varied landscape with rocky coastline, pine forests, picturesque harbors and oyster farms. Today's cycling is 35 km and you have time to discover Royan before you set off on "Boulevard Garnier" with its beautiful 19th-century villas. On the way you cycle through Saint-Seurin-d´Uzet before visiting a vineyard to discover more about Pineau, Cognac and Charentais wines. The stage ends in Mortagne-Sur-Gironde where you stay opposite the harbor.
 

Accommodation in Mortagne or Lacanau

Today you cycle inland to discover wine châteaux that produce Cognac and Pineau. The roads take you past old windmills, sunflower fields and châteaux. You first come to Cotes de Blaye and then to Cotes de Bourg by following the hills that are covered with wheat fields and vineyards. 
 

Accommodation in Sourban or Saint Palais

The final cycling day continues along the right bank of the Gironde. Discover Blaye and its famous citadel where you have a fine view over the Gironde. Finally you cycle towards Bourg-Sur-Gironde along the "Corniche Fleurie" where masses of palm trees, bay trees and green oaks contribute to the mild climate. Once you arrive at the last accommodation you have the opportunity to relax and stroll around in the large garden. 

Accommodation in Bourg sur Gironde, St Gervais or St-André de Cubzac

After breakfast you will be driven to the train station in Saint-André de Cubzac before 10:00 AM for onward train journey to Bordeaux. You leave the bicycles at the hotel. If you want to book extra nights in Bordeaux this works perfectly fine.
