Cycling along Costa Brava

Day 1: Arrival to Baix Empordà

Arrival to La Pera or Corça. If you fly to Barcelona and arrive at the train station in Flaca, the hotel owner will pick you up there. Transfer from Girona airport can be booked as an optional extra. At the first accommodation, your bicycle and cycling equipment await you.

Day 2: Cycling around La Pera - 17 or 31 km, + 200m / - 200m or + 300m / - 300m

Breakfast

Start today's cycling tour through the traditional and picturesque landscape of Baix Empordà. Cycle through fruit orchards, small villages and Mediterranean forest. The medieval town centers of Monells and Madremanya are worth a visit, as is the castle museum in Pubol. If the route feels too tough for a first day, it's possible to shorten it.

Day 3: From La Pera - To Peratallada - 24 km, + 150m / - 175m

Breakfast

Start the day with a short climb through forest. After that, the road is almost completely flat through Tuscan-like villages situated on natural hills. You cycle through a traditional agricultural countryside where cypresses were introduced as windbreaks and to protect against soil erosion. Once in Peratallada, you can take a walk in the village and choose from one of their 13 restaurants.

Day 4: Around Peratallada through rice fields - 40 km, + 150m / - 150m

Breakfast

A peaceful cycling day takes you through green rice fields and the Ter river delta with its windmills. Along the way you pass beautiful sandy beaches and the wetlands Les Basses d´en Coll. Stop in the medieval villages of Fontclara and Gualta.

Day 5: Costa Brava via Calella - 40.5 km, + 150m / - 150m

Breakfast

Cycle out to Costa Brava, along quiet country roads through Pals to Palafrugell, then continue to Llafranch before arriving at Calella de Palafrugell, one of the most beautiful fishing villages along Costa Brava. Feel free to stop for lunch at a beach restaurant or visit the botanical garden at Cap Roig before cycling back. There's an opportunity to extend today's cycling further south through the Aubi valley, an area that has preserved its traditional, rural character. Some of the farms still have towers where villagers hid during pirate attacks in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Day 6: From Peratallada - To Sant Pere Pescador - 38 km, + 200m / - 220m

Breakfast

Today you cycle north to the Alt Empordà region, a 38 km ride through mixed forest, open agricultural landscape and fruit orchards from Peratallada to Sant Pere Pescador. Along the way you pass Empuires, an interesting archaeological site with remains from Greek and Roman times. Feel free to stop in Torroella De Montgri with its medieval streets and alleys. The cycling ends in Sant Pere Pescador, just a few kilometers from the sea.

Day 7: Cycling around Sant Pere Pescador - 37 or 53 km, + 225m / - 225m or + 125m / - 125m

Breakfast

An almost completely flat ride first takes you to Salvador Dali´s Figueres. Feel free to visit the surrealist master's museum and stroll along the city's rambla. Continue via the Augustine monastery along the Muga river to Castello D´Empuries. The ride back is green and refreshing through Aiguamolls de l´Emporda Natural Park on narrow cycle paths.

Day 8: The trip ends

Breakfast

The cycling trip ends after breakfast. Transport to the train station in Figueres is included. From there you have trains to Flaca, Girona or Barcelona.
